so on the news they were talking abuot how working woman are now taking advantage of night nannies. Basically they pay people to come stay at their house at night (when they go back to work) to care for their infants so they can sleep all night. They say they are so tired in the morning that they can't take care of their babies. I just don't get it! OI mean I have nothing against workign woman, I say if you want to work then go for it, if you don't then don't ( I do feel for those that would rather stay home but can't but that is a different topic) So these woman, go to bed at night and sleep all night while the night nanny takes care of baby. They then get up go to work... work all day long, come home, are home for a few hours and then night nanny takes over again.
I'm sorry but when are they the parent to a newborn? The day care takes care of them all day and the nanny all night. Why would they even want this?

I have a good friend in the military (Marine Corps) she is a single mom and EBF her baby for a year. She pumped and baby got bottles of milk during the day, then she let the baby nurse whenever she wanted at night. And she did. That baby reverse nursed. (nursed more at night then day) so mom and baby still had PLENTY of time for bonding and cuddling.

I agree with you Kaytee. If you're having a child, it's YOUR responsibility to take care of it, not a nanny's responsibility. It's very important especially in the early years to take advantage of that time and bond with your child.

oh but the guarentee they can get your baby to sleep 12 hours at night by 12 weeks old.

hmm on second thought maybe I should hire one for NIchole lol

I've never heard of this. I think it's crazy...why bother even having a baby at that point

Glad I am not the only one who felt this was ridiculous.

nope, you're not. I can see calling in help (like a friend or family memeber) for a night if you're just not getting any sleep. I totally know how hard that can be but seriously, paying someone to be there every night just so you can get a full 8 hours?!? that's pretty selfish

Right Vic!

I think this is insane. A night nanny??? I mean aren't these women already used to waking up with their children?
Simple solution: Save the cost of a NN, and go to bed earlier if you have to get up to go to work.

Furthermore, where is the bubby in these situations?? I mean gratned if she's a single mom, she has to make ends meet, but really....paying someone to get up with your kids? If you didn't want to get up, then don't have kids.

all the woman that were interviewed last night were working moms with working dads at home.. They raved about how night nanny took care of their babies and that everyone should do so. Then you can go to work and be well rested

How is anyone affording two nannies? I mean if I didn't have a grant program that took care of my daycare after the fire I would have been screwed. Okay so I am one of those moms who would rather stay home with my kids and did before my divorce minus a few really lean times where I'd go back to work for a bit. Once I got here to Oregon I opened my home day care. The year I worked at my old job was so hard. I missed my kids. I still got up with Natalia in the middle of the night. Yes I am nursing so it is neccesary but also I got more time with her. I was tired... but it was worth it.

I had kids I watched at night when I had my daycare. Their parents worked nights. That I understand and night daycare workers are hard to find and usually charge more. I didn't.

I agree Jen. I still get up with Nichole and she doesn't nurse anymore. She night weaned herself around 18 months or so

I just wonder how much time they spend with the kids.

probably next to known. They are probably the people that have someone take care of their kids from 7am-6 pm, get home and night nanny steps in

Yeah I know how little time I got with my kids when I was working and I did everything to increase that.

Well, at the risk of being a hypocrite, I think that's kind of stupid. I say that because we do employ a nanny, but it's only part-time.

I dont get that. WHy have a kid if your not going to be the one that cares for it? I assume these moms did not breast feed period. Tsk Tsk. Kids are not a status symbol or a tax deduction. They are a life long duty and honor. Down with NN. Act like you love your child. I would like to have a 2 hr a day nanny so I could get more done.

I don't know anyone with two nannies. Even those crazy Duggars don't have a nanny and they have what? Like 40 kids now? Well, okay, that's a bad example because they make the kids take care of the kids.

Around here, it's more cost efficient to have a nanny, because childcare is insane. There are some places that charge upwards of $5000 a month for daycare. If you have more than one kid, it can get out of control.

Our nanny doesn't come everyday. And to be honest, she's more of an errand runner/cleaning girl because she doesn't do a whole lot of caring for the twins. Maybe when I go to the gym, meeting, or lunch date. But I try not to rely on her. she basically helps me out so I cam do things for our family.

See a few hours a day can go a long way to make a happy parent. A happy parent is a better parent. Plus I think when kids get older its good for them to see how other people do things. Bubbas home with me all day everyday and he still doesn't talk like he should. I just dont have much to say and neither does he.

there is nothing wrong with ahving a nanny, these people, had nannies take care of their child all day (both parents worked) then hired these woman to come in and take care of their babies all night!!

I hear you. I have been a nanny but never a night nanny unless the parent worked nights. I did watch kids for a few hours while their mom or dad was home for a few hours too. There is nothing wrong with that.

Night Nannies, I could not believe this thread. I could not imagine having someone else, take care of my child while I was sleeping in the other room that is just stupid. I got in trouble at the hospital when Bennett was born because I could not wake Phil and the nurse did not come quick enough. I crawled out of bed cathader and all to get to him.
I know a few night nannies at work, but they are taking care of old folks who do not have any one to take care of them like an infant should.
