View Full Version : Ethical Question: Would you take a pill that would determine the sex of a baby?
If medical science to were develop a pill that would control the sex of a baby, would you take it. A blue pill to have a boy or a Pink pill to have a girl.
In China this would be extremely popular; they currently have a problem where girl babies are given up for adoption because they are limited to the number of children they can have, and overall they want boys not girls.
Nope, not me. I prefer to leave that kind of thing to the big guy.
I didn't even want to know the sex of my baby until she was born!

Hmmm. I dont know. I would consider it. Also I can see how this would be great for people that have health issues and one pregnancy is all they can make it through. It's nice to have a boy to carry on the family name. So old fashion.

DITTO!
We purposely didn't know the gender of either baby. It made no difference to us.
That said, I see the potential for a lot of BAD things to come from something like this. Nature has a way of working things out with the proper ratios of genders, etc.. This could be a nightmare.

as much as I wanted a boy and God has decided for me that I don't need one, I would not take a pill like that.
Now I am all for those diets that favor one gender over the other, charting to catch the egg at the most ideal time to get the gender you want, I would do that, because its not 100%. To me a pill like that is just taking things out of Gods hands that are his.
I don't know... maybe. :) I'd have to know more details first. I agree it could mess with the workings of the world, but at the same time it sure is tempting LOL.

I wouldn't take it. I have wanted a boy for as long as I can remember but God decided for me what I would be having and I trust his judgement.

There's something about playing God that is unappealing to me.

I don't see the point. Just wait until 20 weeks and find out at the ultrasound if you want to know the sex of your baby.
This seems like it could open up a million doors that would be hard to close.

The only time I could ssee this being a good thing is if there was some sort of disease or something that could only be passed down to say your daughter, and it was a life altering disease kinda thing, but you really wanted a child. Then I could see something like this being a good thing
I just hate surprises. :p

I just don't care much what other people choose to do...LOL, it's not for me but I wouldn't care if someone else choose to use. I'd probably talk about them when they weren't around though, LOL

haha, I guess I'm just not the kind of person who thinks things shouldn't be avalible for anyone just because I wouldn't use them...I think people have reasons for the things they do. I'm just a total gossip...LOL

Fallon- I am like you in a lot of ways. There are things I don't believe in one bit but I see why they exist for others.
Well here's what I think of it -
I dislike the idea that some people have talked about, where people take the embryo out of the womb to change it or whatever or pick out the one they want or something, that's so unnatural and it seems like they're really messing with nature that way and I disagree with it.
However I totally agree with and would try all that natural stuff like eating a certain way and planning a certain day and doing certain things to help you along with getting the gender you would like.
If the "magical pill" we're conjuring up here were to be a pill that simply changed the acidity and conditions or whatnot of the womb to create the perfect environment for a male or female baby, I'd be all for it. I can't really think of another way this pill would work, but if it were something weird I'd probably disagree with it. But otherwise its just an easier way of doing all that natural stuff. Say it were to work like that.
But of course there's still always the idea of the regular usage of that pill messing with nature and the workings of the world, and who knows what it could lead to, so yeah its just so questionable that's why I have no solid answer.
