View Full Version : School ignoring refusal on permission slip

The school sent home a paper asking permission to check my dd's hearing, vision and do a dental exam. I declined these things and sent in the signed form stating that I did and yet today dd brought a paper home saying that they did the dental check and found no issues. They did not do the hearing and vision test though. It was all covered on the same permission form.

I declined because all this was done at her physical for school and she goes to the dentist regularly and I dont see the point of doing it at school.

Now the problem is obviously them ignoring my request. Not a big deal but they are also doing flu shots at school and I have declined that as well but the teacher said dd didnt need to bring in the paper with the big red NO on it. I am worried about them ignoring me this way.

I was going to keep my kids home the day they did the flu shots like I have every year in the past but they are going to be doing them over 3 days time so I cannot keep them home that long. Because they both have missed a week already with the flu and those days count against them :( or at least dd because ds is only in pre k.

Who do I need to talk to about this? I asked dh and he didnt have any idea. Now I dont want to make a big huge stink about this but I do want them to know I am not happy with them going against me in this way.

Vice principle or Principle depending on how big the school is. The point of it would make me hit the roof. Why send home a permission slip if your going to ignor my wishes? The flu shot thing is really scary. No way would I want my kid to be given an injection of ANYTHING at school. I dont know how your kids would feel about maybe wearing a name tag style sticker that says I had my flu shot on those three days.

I would mention it to the principal. Mistakes get made, but someone needs to know about it and your concern with the flu shot.

I would imagine that dd wouldnt mind wearing something like that and I know ds wouldnt but now I have lost all trust with the school on this. They did a medical exam on my kid when I had specifically said no. That isnt acceptable in any shape or form.

I hate to make waves just isnt my thing and I dont want to get on their radar since I dont vax and have an exemption. I am going to try and get an appt to talk to the principle I want to talk to her tomorrow but I have my ds home with me right now with ear infection and I would have to take him with me and that would be to distracting.

I would contact the principal. You should not have to feel that you have to keep your children home just to make sure the school follows your directions. And the next time the teacher says that your daughter did not have to return a paper with a big red NO I would make it a point to make that red NO even bigger next time. I certainly can understand not making a stink about this but it was wrong what they did and you don't want this action to continue.

Yeah someone needs to know they did not follow your wishes. Call the principal.

I agree with everyone else...I'd be pretty upset about this

yep I would be livid. Ok it was a dental check, not a biggie in general,hi but like you said, what if your child had a severe severe reaction to a flu shot in the past and they gave it anyways! Your child could be killed. Obviously this is not the case with your children, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with that either!
talk to the principle and the school nurse at the same time at your meeting
