Default Reputation System

I wanted to post a thread that helps to explain the reputation system that is being used here at NowParenting. This system will allow our members to give out reputation points to other members when they feel a post that was made warrants the credit. This is a great way to show the rest of the community the benefit that other members have on this forum. Here's how it works.
  • If you read a post that you find very informative, select the reputation button for that post (Click the image to open in full size.) to add to that members reputation.
  • Add some comments in the window that appears (optional) and select the 'Add to Reputation' button.
  • Each member starts off with 10 reputation points.
  • When someone adds to your reputation, you are given more points.
Initially most members here will have a reputation power of 1. This means that when they give out reputation points, the person they are giving the points to will increase by one. However, the longer you are a member here and the more posts and reputation points that you have, the higher your reputation power will be. For example, if I give someone reputation points, they will receive 5 points. This is due to the time I have been registered here as well as the amount of posts I currently have. For every 50 posts a person makes, they move up by one for their reputation power. The more you post and the longer you are here, the higher your reputation power.

Now, there are some limitations. If you haven't posted at least 5 times, your reputation power will be 0. This is to prevent people from signing up to abuse the reputation system. Members also will need to spread out who they give reputation points to. This means that you won't be able to continually give points to the same person. You'll need to give reputation points to 5 different people before going back to the first person. Again, this is to prevent abuse of the system.

You will also see green boxes (Click the image to open in full size.) by everyone's username in each of their posts. The number of boxes displayed represents the amount of reputation points a person has received. Each additional box represents 100 reputation points. For example, Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size. would mean someone has 100+ reputation points while Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size. would mean someone has 200+ reputation points.

Also, if anyone is curious how to find out your current reputation, you can either click on the reputation button in one of your posts (Click the image to open in full size.) or go into MySettings and scroll to the bottom of the main page.

If anyone has any questions on how this system works, please let me know.
