Default Too Tired

I don't know what is going on lately but I get tired really easily. In the past week alone I have fallen asleep well before I planned to. Twice while at my computer and once when laying on the couch. Now our couch is really comfortable so there was no surprise in that one. I'm not working extra hours but for some reason I can't seem to stay up. And the times I did doze off I had planned on being online for awhile.

Now I have music playing and I am constantly drinking water so hopefully I can stay awake for a little while longer tonight. Anyone else experience times like this when no matter what you do you just can't stay awake? Since we have kids I know this can be really normal. At least it's normal for those with babies that get up all hours of the night.

Are you pregnant? I have the same problem...

J/K - do you think its side effects from your recent illness? I might mention it to the doctor

It happens to me. I know I have a young baby but not an infant. As busy parents we run ourselves down. Maybe your body needs extra healing time.

You know, I had not considered the stress factor. I am definitely trying to take it easy as I have learned how the little things are simply not worth worrying about. However, recently I have had more on my mind in regards to my health.

Unfortunately it appears my medical issues are far from over. I knew after leaving the hospital that I would have doctor's appointments for at least six months or more so I accepted that. I have seen almost every specialist that I saw while in the hospital and a couple of them I have seen multiple times. Last week I visited the pulmonary doctor and he was concerned that I might have some other bug causing some of the problems I was having. He did mention that with how serious the issues were over the summer, he wouldn't be surprised if the bug that caused this was still in my system. Not something I was looking forward to hearing but I would rather they investigate now then wait until this bug decides to wake up. I returned to the pulmonary doctor today and he explained that I tested positive for something called Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA). Basically this is an autoimmune disease. The good news is that I was barely positive and apparently the blood test that identifies this has a high amount of false positive results so it very well could be wrong. The blood clot in my neck has also not gotten smaller and according to him, it should be gone by now. I have shown no other symptoms of this issue but if the bug is hiding out and not active, that could be why. According to the doctor, he is not so sure I ever had Lemierre's Syndrome. He is not ruling that out but there were a couple of symptoms that are attributed to Lemierre's that I never had. And even though I am sure it is possible not to be hit with every last symptom, he did say that was rare. At this point it is a wait and see approach that is being taken. I am scheduled to have more tests done to rule out some of these possible new issues. I also have return appointments scheduled for both pulmonary and infectious disease. I am very hopeful that the results will turn out well for me but if not at least the doctor's are proactively looking for answers and trying to prevent future problems. This is the most stressful thing in my life right now, for good reason, and although the doctor did not seem to think the medical problems would cause my sleep issues I am keeping it in the back of my mind. I think the stress and the amount of times I have gone from doctor to doctor in just the past week is causing me the be more sleepy. If it were not for the few times I have fallen asleep unplanned later in the evening, I actually feel perfectly fine.

As strange as it might sound, I have to be careful what additional medicine (even over the counter stuff) I take. The blood thinner I am on is very sensitive to new stuff added and I have already been asked many times if I have taken any vitamins. Until I am off the blood thinner I am trying to be as simple as possible with other pills.

You know they haven't tested me for that yet. Now I am really worried.

Just a quick update. I had a doctor appointment this week with the vascular surgeon that saw me while I was in the hospital. I discussed the blood clot issue and asked why he chose to leave it in. He said that it is extremely normal to let the body take care of the clot. If they remove it they may have to also remove the vein. Since this is my jugular vein we are talking about, you can't exactly remove that. I then told him what the pulmonary doctor said about the possibility of this being caused by something else. He also did not rule it out but they gave me an ultrasound of my neck and guess what? According to him the blood clot is gone! I was told just two weeks ago that it was still there and that it was the same size. I still have several doctor appointments coming up so I will have this confirmed a few more times. If he is correct and the blood clot is really gone, it is very unlikely I have the other illness that pulmonary suggested I might have. I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

Mark, Good to hear that the blood clot is gone.

It is my layman's understanding that serious illnesses can create various kinds of side effects on how the body functions, so it very well could effect your sleeping pattern.

I think it was in the late 1800s that the concept of "germs" were discovered. Relatively speaking that is not that long ago, and no doubt that are many more big medical mysteries yet to be discovered that will explain much of what modern medicine speculates about.
