Default Positive News

I am sure others feel the same way. Aren't you tired of all the negative news in the media lately? The economy has tanked, jobs are being eliminated by the masses, and nobody has a clue how to fix everything. Every once in awhile I will read an enlightening story of something positive. I figured, why not highlight those instead? So that's what I am going to do. You are more than welcome to add anything you find as well and I will do my best to post an update of a new story to this thread at least once per week. Below is the positive story that I read which is what got me thinking about this thread to begin with.

It is awesome to see a company give back to the employees that help make that company exist. Great job FreeWave!

Company shares $9 million with employees

Eleven-year FreeWave Technologies Inc. employee Melanie Duran says the wireless data radio maker is a great place to work. But you can judge for yourself.

The Boulder-based company says it has had profits every month since it hired its first employee in 1995. There have been no layoffs. Employees get company-funded retirement plans and bonuses based on profits and growth.

And there's more: As part of a $113 million private-equity investment deal in 2007, FreeWave is sharing $9 million of investors' money with its fewer than 100 employees as a reward for the company's success. Shares are divvied up based on individual performance. FreeWave refused to disclose individual payments.

The $9 million, for eligible employees who were with FreeWave when it won the investment, has been paid out in three installments. Company founders Steve Wulchin and Jonathan Sawyer are handing out the last payments Thursday.

That's incredible. Good for this company! Yes, I'm so tired of all the terrible stuff in the news. We just had 5 people killed by a deranged gunmen about 20 minutes from me...3 of which were children. It's so nice to periodically read or hear about something positive.

Yes that is nice to hear. I have stopped even watching the news, it makes me so sick. Last week there was that story about that woman that killed her baby - it is good that journalists still even recognize happy things.

Here is another positive story that certainly is worth sharing. I love positive stories.

Can't put a price on this
Acts of kindness move auctioneer Kaye to tears
Link to News Story: Can't put a price on this | Laurie Mustard | Columnists | News | Winnipeg Sun

Andy Kaye of Kaye's Auctions was literally brought to tears yesterday talking about the kindness of some of the good hearts and gentle people attending Kaye's weekly Thursday night auction.

The contents of a storage locker (being sold off due to unpaid storage fees) were on the block when the little boy whose toys were in the lot (about three years old, there with his mom) asked Andy if he could "have some of my toys".

"Sure," says Andy, seen here in picture No. 1. "Go ahead."

The little guy gathered a pile of toys, then when the auction got underway, a 20-year regular of Kaye's, Karen, bought a couple of boxes, immediately donating them back to the family.

Other bidders followed suit, till at the end of the sale mom and her little guy had a fair amount of their stuff back.

"I've been in this business a long time," says Andy, "and I have to tell you, that was really something. The little guy's mom certainly had tears in her eyes."

Bet lots of people did. Inspiring.
