And just to clarify, I'm not talking about the $25 dollar a night motel when you are on the road. Those places take cash for sure. But actually on vacation and staying in a HOTEL, you absolutely need a credit card here. Everywhere I've stayed.

But if you give them your debit card number it will work too. They have no way of knowing that the number is from a debit card not a credit card. When Mike is in Canada he uses the debit card for his hotels and everything like that.

Your company is sort of like LendingTree.com for mortgages then. That makes sense. I actually went ahead and checked through your companies site to see if we would save any money and at least through there, we are paying the same amount that other companies were offering. So at least it sounds like we are not being overcharged right now.

We went to a concert in Canada recently and the hotel we stayed at accepted our debit card as payment. They didn't even ask anything about it. That's what we normally use everywhere anyway. We try not to use our actual credit card unless we absolutely have to.

Sweet! I'm not familiar with LendingTree (heard of them), because I don't have a house. I'm all about the comparative websites...I used one to refinance my auto loan and it worked out great for me.

Did you just drop into the hotel without making reservations before hand? That's where they always tell me you need a cc to reserve. But yeah, never thought of what Kim said, just giving them the debit card number! They wouldn't know anyway, since they just need it to confirm reservations.

we always use our debit card when we come to Canada, most American debit cards have a visa or mastercard logo as well though so maybe it's different for you guys but we've never had any issue when traveling there and we've stay'd in some VERY nice places in Canada. We don't use credit cards at all in our house

No we had the room reserved in advance. We don't like to take chances by just showing up.

Interesting! Well next time I stay in a hotel I'm gonna play it up like I don't have a cc. See what happens!
