Default Dad feels cheated in parental holiday gifting

I saw this article today and I thought it was worth posting here. This is a great look at how Dad's tend to get the shaft when it comes to comparing Mother's Day versus Father's Day. We need more recognition ladies.

Unfortunately, fathers get forgotten in many areas. There's a lot of great dad's out there, including some on this board, but we're left in the dust because we didn't give birth to the child.

personally I've never witnessed it being "uneven" but we've always made an equally big deal out of each in my family. I'm sure it happens though. I can say in our house money value on gifts isn't always equal but when dad works and mom doesn't it's not always possible. Basically hubby buys himself what he wants and me and kids do other things to celebrate

yay its fairly even here as well. I got nothing for moms day but a card and he himself got a fishing pole. For dads day, he will get a scrapbook page made by me of him and Nichole.

I think the reason it gets jaded and mom gets more is in a lot of situations, mom gives up more. Not always of course, just how I have seen it around my own friends. Mom and dad both college educated, mom gives up her career to raise kids (their choice of course), moms tend to lose themselves in parenting more often then dads. I don't see a lot of dads complaining that they are nothing but a dad. Dads don't seem to lose themselves as easily then the moms do. Maybe that is SAHM experience as most of my friends are SAHM. The one friend that I do have that both sets work, HE actually does more around the house and with their daughter then she does, but everyone else, mom does most.

Go to a picnic with friends, dad will be eating his burger and drinking his beer or coke before mom sits down to eat, because mom is still setting the kids up with their food.

Again this is not every situation, but I do see it more often then the other way around,.

I know when I was married that was not the case. Half the time Mother's Day was forgotten but I'd do something on Father's Day for him.

Yep there's a stigma that goes along with being a dad. People assume that you don't deserve ay appreciation because you don't get to go on play dates or take the kids to the zoo twice a week. All you do is bring home a paycheck. Hell my father-in-law said one time that I'm nothing but a sperm donor. That's another story.

Anyway I don't need gifts from my kids or my wife because when my kids wrap their arms around my neck and say I love you daddy, well that's good enough for me.

I think it really depends on the situation your in. There are a lot of parents out there who don't get the recognition they deserve

its so true! Dads need appreciation just as much as moms. What about working moms though, they do the same thing as a working dad and probably still get more credit. Not really fair

I never noticed dads getting the shaft. My mom always made dads day a thing and we (bro and I) always made moms day a thing. Now we dont really make either holiday a thing. We usually just do some family thing together. But on "our" day I can nap if I want or spend time by myself and on dads day he can play video games or whatever he wants all day. Kinda like on your birthday same deal.
