Default what do you consider....

to be a "big baby?" ok so sooo many woman are told around 30 or so weeks that they are having a big baby, and won't be able to deliver vaginally unless they induce early. These woman of course go on to have 7 pound "big babies"
Americans on average have smaller baby size then most modern countries. So what do you consider a "big" baby? and do you think that at 30 weeks, its possible for a doctor to determine if a baby is going to be to big?

well to me personally if this baby came out 8.5lb or less I would consider her small...I've never had a baby under 8lb 12oz. But I think all women should be given the chance to birth their babies no matter how big the doc thinks they may be...watch them carefully though, I do know a girl personally how was to small to birth her child and they never did the c/s she need. the babies shoulder and arm were broken so badly that he may never have use of it :-(

that is so sad Fallon. Yes I agree that every woman should be given the chance to birth vaginally. Even GD woman who have bigger babies on average, shuold be given the chance to try. My ex SIL is tiny!!! She is 5'4 or so but weighs about 90 pounds wet!! She is one of those people you think you might break her hand if you touch her. She delivered all 4 of her kids naturally and vaginally. Though she wanted epidurals with all of them! lol She never could make it to the hospital on time. lol
Her smallest was over 8 pounds as well. NOt that 8 pounds is a big baby, but for someone that tiny, it is. I mean I am short and smaller, but I am not a petit thing! ust average to small build.
We have had so many babies born on another site for July babies that were told "we have to induce you at 37 weeks because your baby is HUGE" scares and these babies are under 7 pounds!!! THat is not huge. Drives me nuts. Then when someone like you pops out a kid that is 8 pounds at full term, everyone is like "wow big baby!!!" no its not!Abigail was a big girl, but she wasn't huge! lol

I think that women GENERALLY don't grow babies too big for them, barring any medical conditions such as GD. So yes, I think they should all be given the opportunity to try. My cousin is an OB for high-risk pregnancies and she says the ONLY way to tell if a baby will fit through a woman's pelvis is to birth it. I had planned on getting an epidural if we thought Megan was over 10 lbs just in case I couldn't birth that and needed a CS (since I wanted natural if I needed a CS they would have put me under general, I would rather get the epi than be completely knocked out, you know?) But we didn't think she was that big. I think under 6 lbs is small, 7-9 is normal, and 10 and over is big. But just because the baby is big doesn't mean it won't come out.

My mom had six big babies and delivered all of us vaginally. Her biggest- 11 pounds. That's a big baby. My mom is an inch taller than I am and about the same build. I would not let the doctor give me a C/S or an induction because they thought the baby was big because they always measured bigger than they were.

In my opinion big is 10pds and over. Mine where 7p11 and 8p4 respectively.

I think the head size is the deciding factor. Chubby babies are actually easier to birth according to some because they slide out easier not as bony I guess

As for u/s and sizing I wouldnt agree to anything based on that because they are wrong 99% of the time.

glad to know I am not alone.
And yes 11 pounds is a big baby. Doesn't mean it can't come out vaginally, but still abig baby!! lol
Nichole was also measured bigger, they though her to be around 7 1/2 and 40 weeks, and came out at 6lb 12oz at 42 1/2. BUT I will say that they had to reweigh her a few times as she "looked" bigger then what she weighed. It was because she was chubby. She had baby rolls! lol

I could see how a far baby would be easier to birth in a sense, though its the head and shoulders that are the big things, then they just slide right out! lol
