I am back ... although a day early. We had a good time but unfortunately our vacation was not without some sadness. As mentioned previously, there were four couples going to Myrtle Beach. We all got together and rented a beach house which helped to make the costs less per couple. My parents went along with my brother's family, and one of my sister's families. Altogether there were 14 of us there. My other sister moved to Myrtle Beach earlier this year and she also visited us while there.

The sad part was that my sister-in-law's parents (brother's wife) were also supposed to go. That would have made five couples but a couple of weeks before the trip they pulled out due to health issues with her father. We arrived in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, July 4th and on Monday we received a call that my sister-in-law's father was in the hospital. He had several strokes in the past and the doctors could not determine what was causing them. On Monday he had a major stroke which left him fighting for his life. He was being kept alive by machine and on Wednesday my brother and his family left the house and returned home as his condition was not getting any better. They drove the long 16 hours back home and made it in around 12:30am Thursday morning. My sister-in-law immediately went up to the hospital to visit her dad and sadly he passed away around 4:30am that morning. She was able to see him and even though he was non-responsive, she talked to him for a few hours before he died. Her mom arrived at the hospital that night and took his hand long enough to tell him that she loved him and he passed away less than a minute later. This was a complete shock to all of us. We knew his health was not the greatest but nobody would have imagined that he would have died. He was only 58 years old and the rest of the vacation was not the same after that. The rest of my family left a day earlier so we could arrive home today and attend the funeral. We literally got home, put our bags in our home, changed clothes, and went to the funeral. This of course was very sad for all of us.

We were scheduled to be back tomorrow but it is good to be back, even though the circumstances are not what any of us would have wanted. I did get to take some pictures and I am going to connect my camera now so I can share some of them with everyone here. Even though our vacation ended on such a sad note, we did have some fun during the week. We enjoyed the beach house and we had some fun with the kids.

Wow bud, I'm sorry to hear this. I'm glad you were able to at least enjoy most of your vacation and glad you made the trip safely.

Thanks Jeni and Steve. It certainly was not the way we wanted to remember the vacation but nonetheless it was good to get a break from work to refresh some.
